The Spindle Guys dba KC Wood is your best choice for Iron Spindle Installation

best iron spindle replacement Kansas City
Our industry is populated with part-time and frequently unqualified people that get work primarily because they are in the right place at the right time or are a few dollars cheaper. I have found that most people are trusting and assume that they will get a quality installation. This page was made to point out important criteria to consider when choosing a contractor for this type of work and why KCWood - The SpindleGuys are the right choice for your staircase renovations.
Full-Time We do this full-time. You can call us and reach a person between 7:30 til 4:00 M-F and 8-12 on Sat ... We schedule appointments for people to visit our showroom so we can help them without distraction but unless we are in a meeting we can be reached. I would say that if you call a company and don't get a call back until evening - this is a pretty good indication that they are part-time. The reason this is important to you is because they have other priorities. With a part-time company you get part-time commitment.
Economical* We have been in business for over 20 years and have developed the most efficient methods for iron spindle installation. This makes us economical because it takes us less time to install than other companies. Also, we work on volume of orders which enables us to have an infrastructure that ensures more competitive costs of spindles and labor costs.
Quality Installation Iron Spindle InstallationAt KC Wood, our installers are carpenters managed by strict guidelines established by Steve and Tim Jones. Specifically, we have used different methods of spindle installation. We have decided that the most reliable is a special method of installation with screws - not epoxy. Screws hold the spindle tightly - epoxy, while it is quick, is not as sure because it does not always surround the spindle and can make it loose and rattle.
Managed Quality installation is our primary goal. Co-Owner, Steve Jones, manages installation details ... including our company methods and policies. Steve demands professionalism, reliability, and quality workmanship from all our installers.
Skilled Carpenters Our installers are "skilled trim carpenters" capable of doing much more than iron spindle installation. What this means to you is that if an unexpected construction problem arises, our skilled carpentry staff will be able to deal with it effectively.
Insured This is a very important consideration ... homeowners unwittingly will take a huge risk to save a few dollars by hiring casual labor. We carry Work Comp and Company Liability Insurance. If you don't understand the ramifications with failing to require this, call your insurance agent. By saving a hundred dollars you could become liable for tens of thousands.

*Caution:

If people hire the wrong contractor to do the job ... who do they call to fix it ? ... the Spindle Guys at KC Wood. We are happy to do the repair work and because we are skilled we can repair just about anything with regard to a staircase. I would rather, however, warn people to be more discerning about hiring quality contractors in the first place.

Case # 1: a homeowner with a beautiful curved staircase had been referred by a carpet guy who 'knew of a guy who installed spindles'. The homeowner hired the guy who showed up every now and then, did 'some' of the work and then disappeared again. The contractor also did poor work, drilling into the hardwood floor in the wrong place 3x. The contractor also improperly installed wood end caps. This went on for 2 1/2 months. When the homeowner heard about our company, he hired us to finish the work - we completed the job in about 2 days. We were also able to repair many of the errors.

Case # 2: a homeowner called us about a handrail that had recently had iron spindles put in by 'some guy' but every time the homeowner would touch the rail all the spindles would rattle. Our service manager when out on this call and found that all the spindles had been installed upside down and fastened with hot glue (a product usually used for home crafts). We were able to secure the spindles with our finish screws and no more rattle.

Case # 3: Sad to say this was new construction. A homeowner called us to say the handrail was 'unsafe' in their opinion. When our service manager arrived, he found that the installer had used aluminum plates under the posts instead of steel and had not fastened the screws securely. This was a very costly repair due to the fact the entire handrail system had to be uninstalled to put in steel plates. We were able to correctly re-install the handrail system using nearly all of the original parts (except the faulty plates).

~~ Be careful not to let the few dollars you save today cost you more dollars tomorrow. ~~

**Caution:

I will get calls sometimes about people who will get a low price from a discount retailer. I am not satisfied with telling people,"you get what you pay for" because I want to warn against low quality look alikes. Discount retailers purchase items based on price not quality. They sell the most popular styles but limit themselves to those alone. They purchase spindles that are hollow and if they can buy cheaper they will, without checking product specifications. I have seen Discount Retailers promote products that shouldn't even exist - I call these cheaters because they only look for the immediate sale.
